2021 Plastic Webinar Series
1 February 2021
Imerys proudly presents an eleven part webinar series with varying subjects focusing on our advancements in the plastics industry and the benefits Imerys minerals can bring.
PERFORMANCE MINERALS IN AUTOMOTIVE APPLICATIONS
February 24, 2021 - 3pm EST
The First in our Plastic webinar series to discuss the benefits that Imerys minerals offer in the use of plastics in automotive applications. Imerys minerals offers major benefits compared to metals and other materials in the manufacturing/processing, light-weighting, NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) reduction, and cost. Many automotive polymer applications depend on functional additives, such as Imerys minerals to incorporate performance enhancements in modulus or stiffness, dimensional stability, temperature/heat resistance, and barrier properties.
IMERYS MINERALS - YOUR ANTIBLOCKING SOLUTIONS FOR PE FILMS
March 31, 2021 - 3pm EST
The second of our Plastic webinar series to discuss Plastic film blocking and why Imerys minerals are your ideal antiblocking solution for PE films. Plastic film blocking is a common occurrence during film production, converting and end use. It results in the adhesion of adjacent plastic film layers to each other rendering separation difficult. Imerys minerals provide an optimum balance of haze, antiblocking and mechanical properties.
MINERALS FOR POLYMER FILMS
April 28, 2021 - 3pm EST
With e-commerce and changing consumer habits creating increased demand for safe and convenient packaging, Imerys is committed to supporting our customers in developing the right packaging solutions. This webinar will highlight how minerals are used across a wide range of products, from containerboard to plastic bags, barrier coatings, sheets and films. Minerals such as kaolins and calcium carbonates can be used to boost finished product quality, to increase production efficiencies and to help reduce costs.
MINERALS FOR GLASS FIBER EXTENSION
May 26, 2021 - 3pm EST
The purpose of this webinar is to investigate how partial replacement of Glass Fiber (GF) with mineral additives could help alleviate some of difficulties associated with GF reinforced PA6. Imerys minerals make excellent glass fiber extenders in polyamides. Participants in this webinar will learn how Imerys minerals such as wollastonite, calcined kaolin, and mica, can be used in partial replacement of chopped glass fiber in polyamide compounds to reduce warpage and improve surface appearance, rheology and isotropy of mechanical properties.
MINERALS TO ENHANCE FLAME RETARDANT
June 30, 2021 - 3pm EST
Showcasing to our participants how Imerys mica, kaolin, and wollastonite are successfully used in many halogenated, halogen-free, and intumescent flame retardant (FR) formulations as FR synergists and/or for improving mechanical, thermal, rheological and aesthetic properties of fire resistant plastics.
MINERALS FOR ACOUSTIC AND SOUND DAMPENING
July 28, 2021 - 3pm EST
Join us for this exclusive webinar series where you can discover the fundamental properties of minerals and the role they play in the solution for sound and vibraton dampening in application such as power tools, under-the-hood automotive parts, and water-based structural coatings. Many types of minerals can be used to achieve the maximum amount of heat dissipation but mica remains the most efficient of all. In tests, selected grades of mica at different loadings generated sound damping properties comparable to, or exceeding, glass fiber.
MINERALS FOR MECHANICAL REINFORCEMENT
August 25, 2021 - 3pm EST
Imerys' extensive mineral portfolio provides a one-stop-shop solution for making everyday plastics and rubber stronger, lighter and more cost effective. Join us as we present how our minerals can effect reinforcement such as increasing stiffness and strength of plastics which is a major benefit of minerals in plastics. Imerys' high aspect ratio minerals provide the most significant increase in the stiffness of plastics. The effect of minerals on strength is typically small, but it is enhanced using mineral products that are surface treated for improved compatibility with specific types of plastics.
MINERALS FOR E&E APPLICATIONS
September 29, 2021 - 3pm EST
The next webinar in the series will cover the use of Imerys Minerals in the different types of Electrical and Electronic applications. Engineering thermoplastics (ETP) and their blends are increasingly replacing metals and thermosets in the automotive and electronic and electrical (E&E) industries for high end applications. Participants in this webinar will learn how Imerys minerals make ideal multi-functional fillers and process enablers in the production of E&E thermoplastic components where they improve stiffness, dimensional stability, flame retardancy and surface appearance making them ideal for demanding applications.
MINERALS FOR CONSTRUCTION
October 27, 2021 - 3pm EST
Imerys has many years of experience providing minerals solutions for construction plastics and thermosts. Applications such as roofing films, luxury vinyl tiles, foaming & nucleation, as well as insulation. This webinar will walk through data on which minerals are ideal based on the desired property ot be achieved, and how these minerals can provide value by increasing application durability, mechanical performance, recyclability, or by decreasing their overall weight.
MINERALS FOR SUSTAINABILITY
November 23, 2021 - 3pm EST
The benefits of recycling plastic are evident in so far as recycling preserves natural resources and supports advancements towards a more developed circular economy. Recycling plastics is challenging, however, as the mechanical properties of recycled compounds tend to deteriorate during the recycling process, limiting their future use. Join us a we give you access to the Imerys mineral range with in-depth knowledge of the effects of minerals in polymers and what Imerys is able to offer the recycled plastics businesses. Be it our ground-breaking polyolefin compatibilization technology or our engineered, multi-functional mineral additives, Imerys solutions contribute to boosting the performance of recycled materials to match those of virgin polymers enabling their use in higher value applications that meet key performance requirements.
MINERALS FOR BARRIER
December 29, 2021 - 3pm EST
Highly lamellar minerals such as mica create an effective barrier for air or liquid transmissions in plastics compounds. Generally speaking, the more lamellar the mineral the better the barrier properties. Join us as we discuss how our minerals are efficient in reducing gas, water vapor and solvent permeability in polymers.
