Wollastonite Range

Wollastonite Range Improves performance in a range of adhesives and sealants

Wollastonite is a naturally occurring calcium meta-silicate (CaSiO3) with a distinctive acicular (needle-like) morphology. It is white, abrasion resistant and has refractory properties with a surface highly suited for silane modification. Wollastonite is particularly useful in structural adhesives to improve cohesive properties. Its typical morphology and preferential orientation upon curing make it efficient in improving acoustic damping.

Imerys offers a range of wollastonite grades varying in particle size, aspect ratio and surface treatment. These properties are important in improving the performance of adhesive and sealants in terms of:

  • Dimensional stability
  • Tensile strength
  • Sag resistance
  • Abrasion resistance
  • Rheology
  • Cold temperature crack resistance
  • Dispersion
  • Sound damping
  • pH control

Our wollastonite grades are suitable for:

  • Structural adhesives
  • LASD and plastisols
  • Aqueous adhesive and sealants
  • High-temperature systems
  • Pressure-sensitive adhesives
  • Hot melts
  • Heat-activated systems
  • UV curable adhesives
  • Moisture reactive adhesives and sealants

Recommended product lines:

Fine and high aspect ratio products

  • Aspect®
  • Nyglos®

Low aspect ratio products

  • Nyad®

Surface treated

  •  Wollastocoat® grades

Surface treated grades tend to provide better dispersion and low moisture uptake, especially suited for moisture-sensitive formulations.
