Cat litter Imerys supplies a range of clumping and non clumping cat litter grades to suit all pet owners
Imerys offers an extensive portfolio of cat litter products based on bentonite, moler, zeolite, silica gel, vegetable fiber, wood pellets and flakes. Our products are excellent solutions for meeting current key trends for pet litter products in terms of clumping, light weight, whiteness and effective odor control.
Our cat litter portfolio is one of the widest and most comprehensive on the market, giving our customers optimal opportunities to lead, both with private label and Imerys proprietary brands such Amigo™, Avancat™ or Bento™.
Clumping cat litter
Clumping litters are very popular with end consumers as they make litter box cleaning much easier.
Bentonite is the best mineral for clumping cat litter because of its high absorption capacity, water retention and ability to form clumps - other materials would require chemical additives to make it clump.
Bentonite is a naturally occurring clay mineral. When in contact with liquids, bentonite absorbs 3.5 times its own weight, making it a very valuable base for cat litter. Bentonite does not support bacterial life and works as a natural drying agent due to its high absorption capacity, ensuring the litter box stays hygienic and odor-free. It is environment friendly and inert.
Imerys supplies bentonite as pure, raw material – with or without fragrance and no other additives. Our ranges include classic grey, ultra grey (fine), white classic and white ultra bentonite grades.
The majority of our bentonite cat litter products are produced at our mine in Milos, Greece – the scale of which means Imerys can supply the desired large quantities with consistency of quality.
Imerys supplies bentonite for cat litter in different types of packaging including bulk, Big Bag and small consumer packaging.
Non-clumping cat litter
Imerys grades for non-clumping cat litter are derived from moler, zeolite and silica gel.
Moler is a natural rock formation that is found - and mined by Imerys – only on the islands of Fur and Mors in Denmark. It is composed of approximately one-third clay and two-thirds diatomaceous earth. This diatom content gives moler its large specific surface and unique absorption qualities. Moler is highly suited to use in cat litter due to its ability to absorb animal effluents and reduce odor. Each granule acts like a sponge, absorbing liquids and helping to inhibit bacterial growth. Moler offers double active odor control, meaning the litter tray stays fresh for longer. It is environment friendly and inert.
Imerys molers for cat litters are essentially calcined grades which are characterized by their light weight and pinkish color.
Zeolite is a hydrated crystalline alumino-silicate mineral, formed where volcaniclastic rocks/tuffs react with alkaline groundwater. Zeolite has a high surface area and ion exchange capacity which delivers exceptional performance and odor control when used as cat litter. Clinoptilolite zeolite acts as a molecular sieve, adsorbing ammonia ions, resulting in odor minimization from animal waste. It is environment friendly and inert.
Imerys zeolite grades are produced from our deposit in Bulgaria. They can be supplied in Big Bags and end-consumer bags.
Imerys also supplies silica gel cat litter. Silica gel crystal cat litter is derived from sodium silicate which is processed with oxygen and water, resulting in a bead with tiny pores that enables it to absorb approximately 40 times its weight in moisture.
Silica crystals are highly efficient solutions for odor control. Each crystal comprises thousands of mini-channels capable of absorbing moisture which stays trapped inside the inner channels, mitigating odor. This absorbency capacity is continuous, meaning most silica gel based cat litters can work for up to a month for one animal, for example.
Silica gel is lightweight, dust-free and light colored.
The Imerys portfolio also includes a selection of organic cat litter solutions based on wood pellets, wood flakes, and vegetable fiber.
Wood pellets and wood flakes are non-clumping solutions.
Vegetable fibers are clumping solutions.
As consumer preferences vary widely from country to country, Imerys also offers industrial customers customized cat litter solutions to match local requirements.
