Imerys is the leading global producer of Micro-Fibrillated Cellulose (MFC) / mineral composites.
Imerys owns and operates four FiberLean® commercial on-site plants producing tailor made products delivering specific functionalities and cost efficiencies.
Balancing the level and type of mineral with the level of MFC in the composite allows papermakers to enjoy a range of papermaking benefits including:
- Lightweighting costly layers in multi-layer board
- Reduction of market pulp
- Improved strength characteristics
- Opportunities for new product development
FiberLean® MFC is a composite material produced by co-grinding cellulose fibers with minerals, whereby the minerals act as grinding media and make hydroxyl groups accessible. The MFC composite has a large surface area, which allows the formation of more hydrogen bonds within the web and gives natural strength to the paper. FiberLean® MFC grinding facilities can be installed at paper mills for tailor made products able to deliver significant value.
FiberLean® Technologies’ mission statement is to further industrialize and proliferate the use of Micro and Nano Cellulosics beyond paper and board applications. These natural, renewable, abundant, high performance materials have the power to lead a material science revolution towards a more sustainable future.
FiberLean® Technologies is continuously establishing collaborations with leading market players and institutions to develop the applications that will make our vision a reality.
We offer a full range of bespoke formulation and technical and process support services to help you match the right mineral grade to your application requirement.
