High brightness, ultrafine platy Imerys talcs make excellent cost-effective TiO2 extenders in fine papers.
Titanium dioxide is used in paper for its high optical efficiency. TiO2 particles scatter light well compared to other fillers making it useful in paper grades requiring superior opacity such as lightweight opaque offset papers and bible papers. The abrasiveness and high price of TiO2 restrict its broader use, however.
High brightness, ultrafine platy Imerys talcs make excellent cost-effective TiO2 extenders in fine papers. Talc's brightness and refractive index are lower than other mineral extenders, but its large, thin plates space TiO2 particles very effectively giving good opacity levels.
Talc is highly smooth and the least abrasive of all minerals, prolonging wire life and other parts of paper making machinery.
Imerys talcs are also ideal for TiO2 extension in colored papers and labels where they improve TiO2 retention and performance and enhance opacity.
