Kaopolite 1149 & PerlWhite 19

Kaopolite® 1149 & PerlWhite 19 For whitening and gentle polishing in toothpastes

  • Stain removal
  • Effective at low concentrations
  • Low dentin and enamel abrasion

ImerCare® PerlWhite™ 19 is a perlite-based whitening and gentle polishing agent for toothpaste, while Kaopolite® 1149 is a kaolin based alternative. Toothpaste containing Kaopolite® 1149 and  PerlWhite 19 cleans the surface of the teeth without scratching, minimizing damage to enamel, dentin, root surfaces, and gum tissue. These two offerings allow flexibility in formulating and the ability to design to exact performance targets.

Unique morphology

ImerCare® PerlWhite 19 is effective due to its optimized particle size distribution and unique particle shape. Imerys’s innovative, proprietary grinding process enables large particles to be removed and actually modifies particle morphology, transforming 3-dimensional particles into 2-dimensional, platy particles. The combination of the natural hardness of the perlite mineral with this patented technology provides unparalleled benefits to formulators looking for gentle polishing and whitening.

Compared to conventional perlite grades available on the market today, ImerCare® PerlWhite 19 offers the ideal balance between effective stain removal (Pellicle Cleaning Ratio) and minimum tooth wear (Relative Dentin Abrasion).

Due to its fine, platy perlite particles, ImerCare® PerlWhite 19 improves cleaning at just a 1.5 to 2% loading.

ImerCare® PerlWhite 19 is inert and pH neutral so it does not have an effect on the pH of the toothpaste system and is compatible with other toothpaste ingredients, particularly therapeutic agents such as fluoride.

Clinical tests of ImerCare® PerlWhite 19 have been conducted by the Oral Health Research Institute at Indiana University, USA (detailed study available on request).

Kaopolite® 1149  is a highly engineered kaolin with a higher hardness than traditional kaolins and high edge content but still being a very fine mineral. With its lower Mohs hardness than enamel, it can deliver very effective cleaning without damaging the surface of teeth.

Kaopolite® 1149  is a great option for a full replacement of hydrous silica to significantly reduce the long-term damage potential to enamel that can result from toothpaste usage. It is also an ideal option in oral care for children’s and sensitive toothpaste where you still want an excellent cleaning, but a softer abrasive technology.

Clinical tests of Kaopolite® 1149  have been conducted by the Oral Health Research Institute of Indiana University, USA and have demonstrated this performance and are available upon request.
