Suzorite® Your ideal solution for structural vibration damping, improved mechanical properties and GF replacement
- Structure-borne vibration damping through dissipation
- Enhanced reinforcement (stiffness)
- Improved dimensional stability
- Reduced warpage
- Partial GF replacement
Suzorite® phlogopite micas are ideal solutions for applications requiring reinforcement and structure-borne vibration damping and where greater resistance to moisture, heat, light or chemicals is required. They can also be used for partial replacement of glass fiber in PA6 without affecting stiffness.
Vibration damping
Imerys phlogopite micas are ideal for improving vibration damping in polypropylene (PP) compounds, latex interpenetrating polymer networks (LIPN) and as a replacement of glass fiber in polyamide 6.6 (PA6.6).
Relative noise reduction vs. neat PP Frequency 20Hz-20kHz
Relative noise reduction vs. neat PA 6.6 Frequency 20Hz-20kHz
Highly lamellar Suzorite® micas generate sound damping performance comparable to, or exceeding, glass fiber and in all cases superior to those of the virgin resin.
Suzorite® is ideal for improving noise reduction in polymeric compounds for:
- Power tool housings
- Under-the-hood automotive parts
- Bitumen membranes for use in automotive and domestic appliances
- Water-based structural vibration damping coatings for trains, boats, buses, airplanes, cars and many other applications.
Reinforcement
High aspect ratio Suzorite® micas are also ideal for improving mechanical properties of plastic composites, including:
- Flexural modulus and strength
- Heat deflection (HDT) performance
- Tensile strength
It also improves cross-flow shrinkage and shrinkage isotropy
GF replacement
High aspect ratio Suzorite® 150S and Suzorite® 325 HK micas and their surface treated counterparts Suzorite® 150 PO and Suzorite® 350 PO can significantly improve reinforcement in polyamides.
Their reinforcement in Polyamide 6 (PA6) is comparable to chopped glass fiber, so they can be used for partial replacement of glass fiber in PA6 without affecting stiffness.
Flexural modulus of PA6 with 30% mica or 10% mica and 20% chopped glass fiber Vs. 20% and 30% glass fiber filled PA6
Flexural strength of PA6 with 30% mica or 10% mica and 20% chopped glass fiber Vs. 20% and 30% glass fiber filled PA6
